While the main state-owned banks of the country are reducing their branches, banks with private capital are opening new ones.

For six months, the number of bank branches decreased by 239, to 6895 in Ukraine. 178 banking branches were closed just during the 2nd quarter. And over 5 years, banks have reduced the number of their branches by more than 3900 units. (as of July 1, 2016, there were 10,882 bank branches in the country). This is evidenced by the data of the National Bank. As ubr.ua informs

The state-owned Oschadbank (1743 operating units as of July 1, 2021) and Privatbank (1574) remain the leaders in terms of the number of branches.

Top 5 banks that closed the most branches in six months of 2021:

Privatbank closed 143 branches (110 – in the 2nd quarter of the year);

Oschadbank – 94 branches;

Alfa-Bank – 15 branches;

Ukrsibbank – 12;

Ukrgasbank – 7.

At the same time, banks with private capital are increasing their presence at the market: FUIB opened 12 new branches in six months, First Investment Bank – 7 and Ukrbudinvestbank – 4.

In total, there are 73 operating banks in Ukraine as of July 2021.
