Unemployment in Ukraine increased by 17% in December

In December 2019, the unemployment rate in Ukraine increased by 17.1% as comparing with previous month, amounting to 338.2 thousand people. This is evidenced by the State Statistics Committee(SSC). Minfin.com.ua informs.

In December, there were 59K vacancies, and 6 people applied for one vacancy.

The SSC noted that the data are given without taking into account the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Sevastopol and part of the temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The main causes of unemployment, according to MERT’s study:

38% of the unemployed in Ukraine are released at will or at the agreement of the parties;

21% are released due economic reasons;

10% of all unemployed Ukrainians are students who were unable to find a job after graduation;

9% of Ukrainians have seasonal work;

5% are out of work because they are doing housework.
