Turkey is one of the largest trading partners of Ukraine and its investors. It was stated by President Poroshenko in the interview to the Turkish news agency company “Anadolu Agency”.
“Turkish businessmen feel absolutely comfortable in Ukraine. Turkey is among the top five trading partners and the top ten investors in Ukraine,” the Head of State said, adding that thanks to the creation of favorable conditions, Ukraine has risen by 41 points in the World Bank’s ease of doing business ranking. “This is absolutely verified information,” he said.
Petro Poroshenko reminded that in 2017 the trade turnover between the two countries had increased by 20% and stressed that Turkey invested in the majority of industries of Ukraine, including construction and infrastructure.
Such growth is demonstrated in the sphere of investment and tourism, the President also said. “This characterizes the comfort felt by the business community, tourists, people, governments and presidents from the development of the situation, and I am very proud of this,” he added.
According to the Head of State, this was facilitated by the opportunity for the citizens of Ukraine and Turkey to travel only with internal ID-passports, without foreign passports, for a period of 90 days in both countries. As a result, the number of flights per week between the countries is more than 180. “All this plays an important role in increasing the number of mutual visits of businessmen, tourists, scientists and students. This year it is expected that 1 million 350 thousand Ukrainian tourists will visit Turkey. This figure is approaching the 1.5-million mark,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.
The President is hopeful that an agreement on the free trade area between the countries will be concluded before the beginning of the new year. Petro Poroshenko stressed that the positions of the two countries on this agreement coincide by 96%. According to him, the position of Turkey differs only in the field of agriculture, and Ukraine – in the field of textiles. At the same time, all inconsistencies in the document regarding metal and steel have been overcome.
“I hope we will get successful results before the new year. Anyway, we are all convinced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko want this to happen before the new year. Therefore, we will do everything in our power. The governments and heads of two states will demonstrate their political will to overcome the difficulties in the field of trade,” the Head of State summed up.
“I am grateful for the attention in the international arena, in the field of trade and investment. We are true friends and strategic partners,” Petro Poroshenko said about the level of Ukrainian-Turkish bilateral relations.
